How to play
Players stand behind a line and toss the hats one at a time at the character targets. A hat that stays on a head scores. The brim spins and wobbles, so the throw needs a soft touch rather than power. Little kids stand closer, adults stand further back.
Hats can go underarm or with a frisbee flick. Let players find their own style, then share what works for whoever scores best.
Scoring ideas
Keep scoring loose for little kids. Everyone who plays should leave with something, even if all their hats slid off.
- One point per hat that stays on, three throws per turn
- Bonus point if all three hats land
- Different distances for different ages, marked with colored tape
- Family challenge: each family adds up its scores
What your rental includes
We deliver the targets and hats, set it up on flat ground with a clear area behind, tape a throwing line, and bring a basket for the hats plus a spare set in case one gets stepped on. We show your volunteer how to run it, then collect everything at the end.
Events it suits
Because it needs no power and very little space, Sombrero Toss fits kids' birthdays, school fun days, church fairs and library events. At a Cinco de Mayo or fiesta party it fits the theme well, and we recommend keeping the decor respectful rather than a costume caricature.
It is also a smart game for the line next to a mechanical bull. Guests waiting their turn play a round and stay entertained. Try a stamp card: each turn earns a stamp, five stamps earn a prize, and kids start exploring the other games too.
